Ultra Fast Leitz Military Lens 50mm f/0.7 made by Hughes-Leitz Canada (ELCAN)

Ultra fast Leitz lens with approximately a 50mm focal length and a 75mm front element, making it approximately f0.7. This is a military lens with an unknown original use, it has a very short flange focal distance and no focus helicoid or aperture. I tested it on a crop sensor Fujifilm XT2 and at the same focus distance it has the same magnification as a 50mm lens.

Also when comparing the exposure times I found that my 50mm f2 had an exposure time of 1/30th and the Leitz was 2 stops faster at 1/125th, which corresponds to f1.0 (which should be faster still in full frame sensor cameras). It produces a very beautiful dreamy, watercolour painting effect with masses of very soft bokeh and halation. The focus point when used with Fuji X-mount cameras is 41cm (to the sensor) so this can be used for still life, flowers and other close subjects.

On Nikon it was closer to 20cm. The body shows lots of ware and some impact damage and the front element has surface marks and light scratches. This is a very interesting lens and in the right hands this lens will produce some interesting and beautiful images.
