Leica Summilux-R 1.4/50mm - is an ultra fast, standard lens with fixed focal length made for Leica-R mount SLR cameras. The first version was designed by Heinz Marquardt in 1967. The lens was introduced in 1970 and was produced until 2009.

In total about 35 000 lenses were manufactured. The Summilux-R is a superb 50mm prime lens, offering sharpness, top built quality, excellent contrast, nice colours and versatility. Flare and coma are almost completely eliminated. Its a very solidly built lens. The all metal construction feels very rigid and well manufactured.

Thanks to the riffled surface and the distinct aperture clicks you receive a lot of feedback from the lens when you are operating it. It does not feel like a cheap lens at all, which is reassuring. I also want to mention the lens shade, which is particularly nice.

A lot of lenses (especially a lot of Leica lenses) have fiddly, kind of cheap feeling lens shades which can fall off. When you operate a wide angle lens with a large front element a good lens shade is important. It has a great lens shade. It feels solidly attached to the lens, it is not gigantic, feels just perfectly balanced and just looks pretty cool. The 50mm Summilux is a really good 50mm prime lens. This lens is very sharp and the image quality you obtain is very good at all aperture settings. The Summilux is one of those lenses that will deliver a decent picture with almost any setting. Wide open you obtain a nice shallow backdrop and a lot of sharpness on your subject, especially in the center. The Summilux is not only sharp it also offers a lot of contrast, making for images that are clear and full of details.

When you close the aperture, more and more details emerge. I would argue that the sharpness is almost on par with modern lenses, at least once you close the aperture a bit. The Summilux is both good for portraiture and landscape photography. Optical design: 7 elements in 6 groups.

Focal length - 50 mm. Body is in excellent condition. Lens barrel accept light filter well. Glass is clean from any scratches or wear.

No dust, no haze, no fungus or oil inside. The aperture moves nicely at every aperture position. The aperture-control ring turns smoothly and accurate. The focusing turns smoothly and precise. I can send more detailed photos - just ask.

Front and rear lens caps, original Leica leather case. Otherwise I can't guarantee availability of the item. Item are carefully packed usually with bubble wrap in carton boxes. All items must be return in original conditions without any physical changes with all of its components.
