Pristine Leica Leitz 90mm f2.8 Elmarit near mint, beautiful glass

If its serial number (1918xxx) didn't indicate that it was meticulously crafted in Wetzlar during 1962, I could probably get away with listing this beautiful lens as "mint". Truth is, nothing as vintage as this Leica 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit could be honestly described as "mint", but cosmetically, mechanically and optically, this beautiful lens comes mighty close. I can detect no blemishes on its velvety smooth focusing barrel and the glass is pristine. I see no fungus at all nor any fog of consequence. The lens is also free of "cleaning marks" (euphemism for scratches).

There is some dust, but very little of that. In fact, I can say with confidence that you will not find a 90mm Elmarit in better condition than this one. NOTES: this lens, like some other M film series lenses, will need a simple re-calibration to focus completely accurately on Leica M digital bodies. I can arrange this service, if needed.

Please note the size of this beautiful lens (last photo). While it is very compact when compared with today's DSLR lenses, it is still large by Leica M series standards. The trade-off when compared with the later, shorter 90mm Tele-Elmarit is the reported optical superiority of the full-size Elmarit. Personally, I find the Elmarit a pleasure to handle when attached to my beloved M2.
